How we compare

Every entry gets the same test: twelve criteria checked by hand on the service itself, never copied from its marketing page. We record what actually exists, not what is promised. Entries are corrected whenever a service changes its rules, and we say so when a site has shut down or no longer accepts minors.

The twelve criteria

Pick by what you are after

Talking without showing your face

Most random chat sites expect a webcam if you want to be taken seriously. Look for the entries where the avatar column is ticked: you can be there without being filmed.

A genuinely moderated site

"Moderated" means little without detail. Each entry states who moderates, when, and what happens after a report. This is the criterion that separates services the most.

Something beyond "next, next"

Skipping through strangers with nothing to do together kills a conversation in ten seconds. The entries show which services offer games, reactions, or a reason to come back.

Frequently asked questions

Are these comparisons unbiased?

We publish PLOXX, so no, we are not neutral. That is exactly why the criteria are identical for everyone and why the boxes we fail to tick stay visible: PLOXX has no language filter, for instance. Check for yourself, that is what the links are for.

How often are they updated?

Whenever a service changes in a meaningful way: shutting down, a new age limit, a feature removed. A comparison describing a site as it was two years ago helps nobody.

Why are some sites missing?

We do not compare adults-only services or those built on paid dating: they are not alternatives to PLOXX, and lining them up side by side would be misleading.
