About Wizz
Wizz is a French app, published by WIZZ SAS in Paris, for making friends by scrolling through profiles and then chatting. It became very popular with teens, in France as well as in the United States.
Its minimum age has moved. Many pages still say 13, but its July 2026 terms state that no one under 16 is allowed, and that some parts of the service require you to be 18. The French App Store rates it 18+.
At the end of January 2024, Apple and Google removed it from their stores after a US organisation warned them about its use in sextortion scams. The app came back after strengthening its protections and is available again.
What it does well
- Age estimation by Yoti, plus additional ID verification since December 2025 for higher-risk accounts or users near the age thresholds.
- Content approved before it is delivered, according to the publisher, rather than removed afterwards.
- A genuine friendship intent, with groups by interest.

Where it falls short
- Closed to under-16s by its own terms, and rated 18+ on the French App Store: at 15, you are not allowed on it.
- An account with an e-mail address is required.
- The swipe mechanic resembles dating apps, which is what got it removed from the stores in 2024.
- In-app purchases: a currency (WiCoins) and subscriptions (including Wizz Infinity) to go beyond the free version.
- Mobile app only, nothing in the browser.
Our verdict
Wizz has made real safety efforts since 2024, and its measures are more detailed than most. But its own rules now exclude under-16s, and the App Store limits it to 18+. If you are 15, or simply want to talk without an account or showing your face, PLOXX is built for that: open from 15, no signup, an avatar instead of your face and one-tap reporting.

Its measures are more detailed than most: age estimation by Yoti, content approved before delivery, extra ID checks for risky accounts. They reduce the risk; they do not replace talking about sextortion with your teenager.

Talk about it before taking the phone away: ask what they like about it, and explain that nobody asking for a photo or money is ever a friend. Then look at the reporting and blocking tools together.
