Help

Answers to the questions that actually come up, with real numbers instead of vague wording. If your answer is not here, write to contact@ploxx.tv.

Getting started

Do I need an account? No. No email, no phone number, no password. An anonymous ID is created in your browser on the first visit, and it carries your progress.

Do I need to install anything? Also no. Everything runs in the browser. If you want an icon on your home screen, your mobile browser offers "Add to Home Screen": it is a PWA, not an app store download.

What is the minimum age? 15. The date of birth asked on arrival sets an age band: 15-17 year-olds are matched with each other, never with adults.

Do I need a camera? No. Three modes exist: text only, animated avatar, or webcam. You choose, and you can switch.

Camera and microphone

This is the most common problem, and it almost always comes from a permission rather than a fault. There are two levels to check, and the second is the one people forget.

1. The browser permission (specific to the site):

2. The system permission (often the real cause):

Black screen even though the permission is fine? Another application already holds the camera. Close Zoom, Teams, Discord, OBS or the Camera app, then reload. On a laptop, also check the physical shutter or the keyboard camera switch.

They can hear me but not see me? That is the signature of microphone allowed and camera denied: go back to point 1.

The match will not connect

Video runs over WebRTC, which has to cross your router and sometimes a firewall. In order of frequency:

  1. School or corporate network. This is cause number one. Many school and office networks block the ports real-time video uses. On mobile data or another connection it usually works.
  2. Browser extension. Aggressive ad blockers, privacy extensions and some browser VPNs break WebRTC. Test in a private window with extensions disabled.
  3. VPN. Some VPNs degrade or block the relay. Turn it off to check.
  4. Outdated browser. Update it; WebRTC moves fast.

"I can see them but they cannot see me" - the connection is established, so it is your camera that is not being sent: go back to the previous section.

Worth knowing: on PLOXX video is always relayed through our servers, never a direct connection. That is a privacy choice - it hides your IP address from the other person - and it happens to avoid a good share of router-related blocking.

Reports and bans

How do I report someone? The 🚩 button during a match opens a dialog with a reason to pick. Seven reasons exist, and they do not carry the same urgency:

A snapshot of the other camera is attached at the moment of the report, and only then. Critical cases jump the queue and can be escalated to the authorities.

How long does a ban last? The duration depends on how many sanctions you have already received, and it is public:

SanctionDuration
1st1 hour
2nd10 hours
3rd24 hours
4th7 days
5th14 days
6th30 days
7th and beyondpermanent

Can a group get me banned by ganging up? That is accounted for. Automatic escalation counts distinct reporters over 24 hours - ten reports from the same person count as one - and automatic detections weigh considerably less than a human report. A minimum delay separates two escalations for the same person.

Banned unfairly? Write to contact@ploxx.tv quoting the ban ID shown on screen. Sanctions can be lifted manually, and it does happen.

One thing we will not do: explain how to evade a ban. Sites selling you a VPN for that mostly get you banned again, and "VIP unban" offers on Telegram or Discord are scams: nobody outside can lift a sanction here.

And to be straight about it: a paid "Skip the pause" does exist in the services shop, at 120 glow. We would rather write it down than let you discover it. Two things matter about it: it lifts the current pause but does not reset the counter, so a repeat offence starts at the next duration in the table. And it is not the route to take if you believe the sanction was wrong - for that you want the appeal, which is free, and which corrects the mistake instead of buying past it.

Account, progress and data

I switched browser and lost everything. Your progress is attached to the browser ID. To find it elsewhere, link an email address from your profile: you will get a sign-in link that brings your account across. The email is used for nothing else.

Deleting my data? Write to dpo@ploxx.tv. Inactive accounts are deleted automatically after 24 months anyway.

What do you keep? An anonymous ID, your nickname if you pick one, your game data, and the last 100 messages of each private conversation. Your IP is only logged on a report, and erased after 12 months. Videos are never recorded. The detail is in the privacy policy.

Are you a parent?

We wrote you a separate page with no sales pitch: what to check on any platform, the signals that justify stepping in, and what we do here. See the parents' guide and our Is PLOXX safe? page, which also states what we do not guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

My camera does not work on PLOXX, what should I do?

Check two permission levels: the browser permission for the site (icon left of the address), then the operating system permission for the browser itself - the second is usually the blocker. If the screen stays black, another app already holds the camera: close Zoom, Teams, Discord or the Camera app, then reload.

How long does a ban last on PLOXX?

1 hour the first time, then 10 hours, 24 hours, 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, and permanent from the seventh sanction. The duration depends on how many sanctions you have already received.

Why will the match not connect?

Most often a school or corporate network blocking real-time video, or a browser extension. Test in a private window without extensions, or from another connection.

Can people gang up to get me banned?

Automatic escalation counts distinct reporters over 24 hours, so repeated reports from the same person only count once, and automatic detections weigh less than a human report.

I lost my progress after switching device.

Link an email address from your profile: you will receive a sign-in link that brings your account to the new device. That is the only use of the address.

How do I appeal a ban?

Write to contact@ploxx.tv with the ban ID shown on screen. A sanction can be lifted manually if it was a mistake.
