Is PLOXX safe?
A fair question, especially for a recent platform. Here is what is in place, how to check it yourself, and what we will not claim. A platform that promises you zero risk should raise your suspicion rather than your trust.
Age is asked before the first match, not just written in the terms
This is the most useful difference in the category, and the rarest. Almost every random chat platform has a minimum age buried in its terms and never acts on it: nobody asks you before putting you in front of a stranger.
On PLOXX, your age range is asked before your first match (a single choice, never your date of birth), and it cannot be changed afterwards: under-15s are turned away, with no matches, no friends and no private messages. For 15 to 17 year olds, video always goes through our servers, so their IP address stays hidden from the other person.
The limit, plainly: that age is declared. Nobody in this sector can verify age reliably without demanding ID, which would create a different privacy problem. A determined user can lie. Asking is still far better than not asking, but it is not a guarantee and we will not present it as one.
Your face is never required
Most video chat incidents start with a captured image. The simplest way to remove that risk is not to transmit your face at all:
- Avatar - a character you build replaces the camera entirely. Your real face is never transmitted, so there is nothing to capture.
- Text chat - always there, even with no camera and no mic.
- Webcam - only if you decide to, when you decide to.
This is different from the "masks" offered elsewhere, which remain a layer sitting on top of your real camera feed. See the avatar chat page.
Video moderation runs on your device
The most counter-intuitive technical point, and one we would rather explain than reduce to a slogan. Video is end-to-end encrypted: our servers cannot look at it. Server-side video moderation would mean breaking exactly that.
So the analysis happens in your browser. The other person's stream is scanned locally during the match; no image is sent to us, only signals. If the model fails to load, the site still works: it is a protection layer, not a dependency.
Reporting stays human: one tap sends a snapshot to the team, with structured reasons and automatic priority on serious cases. Repeat offenders are IP-banned.
What we know about you (almost nothing)
- No signup: no email, no phone number, no name. An anonymous ID is generated in your browser.
- If you are 15 to 17, your IP stays hidden from the person you are talking to: your video always goes through our servers, which prevents the classic IP leak of a direct peer-to-peer connection.
- Videos are never recorded. The only exception is a snapshot at the moment of a report, sent to moderation.
- Your IP address sits in the web server's technical logs for 14 days; after a report or a ban, only a hashed (and masked) version is kept, and reports are deleted after 12 months.
- Inactive accounts are deleted automatically after 24 months.
- No third-party ad trackers without your explicit consent.
The full detail is in our privacy policy, not in a marketing sentence.
No, it is not a scam - and here is how to check
Matching, text and video chat, automatic chat translation, friends, mini-games, progression and moderation are free, with no time limit and no card. There is nothing to pay to use PLOXX.
What can be bought is optional: cosmetics and PLOXX Pro, a comfort subscription that helps you progress faster (+50% EXP and bonus Plox, which also work in the shop). Nobody buys a win: a duel comes down to your level, your gear and your tactics, and chests cannot be bought.
And you can check without taking our word for it: open the site, play for ten minutes without getting your card out, and see what you are asked for: not a cent, no email, no phone number.
What we will not claim
No platform where strangers talk to each other can honestly say no risk remains. Here are our limits, stated clearly:
- Age is declared. Someone can lie about their age.
- Moderation is not omniscient. It reacts fast on reports and automatically filters part of the streams, but it does not see everything - and nobody does.
- Screenshots exist. No technology prevents them, which is precisely why the avatar is the better answer.
- The platform is young. Its community is still mostly French-speaking and being built.
The usual habits apply on PLOXX as anywhere: no full name, no address, no school, never move to another private app, and leave without justifying yourself the moment a conversation feels wrong. Our safety guide covers all of it, and parents have their own page.
Frequently asked questions
Is PLOXX safe for a 15-year-old?
That is the audience the platform is built for: open from 15, age declared before the first match, and for 15 to 17 year olds video that always goes through our servers, so their IP address stays hidden from the other person. Add the avatar so you never show your face, video moderation that runs on the device, and private messages that only open between friends who have accepted each other. The honest caveat: age is declared, so these protections greatly reduce the risk without eliminating it.
Does PLOXX record videos?
No. Video is end-to-end encrypted and cannot be watched by our servers. The only exception is a snapshot sent to moderation at the exact moment someone reports you.
How does PLOXX protect the IP address of 15 to 17 year olds?
For 15 to 17 year olds, video always goes through our servers, so their IP address stays hidden from the other person. That prevents the IP leak typical of a direct peer-to-peer connection, a real problem on many competing platforms.
Is PLOXX free, or is it a scam?
Matching, chat, automatic translation, friends, mini-games and moderation are free with no time limit and no card. Optionally, the shop offers cosmetics and PLOXX Pro, a comfort subscription: +50% EXP and bonus Plox. Nobody buys a win: a duel comes down to your level, your gear and your tactics.
Do I have to give an email or a phone number?
Neither. An anonymous ID is created in your browser. Linking an email is possible but optional, and only serves to recover your progress if you change device.
What happens if someone behaves badly?
You leave the conversation - you owe no explanation - and hit the report button, which sends a snapshot to the team with a structured reason. Serious cases are prioritised and can be escalated to the authorities. Repeat offenders are IP-banned.
