Games to play with long-distance friends, even when you're never free at the same time
Search for games to play with long-distance friends and you get lists that all assume one thing: everyone is available at the same hour, in the same call. It rarely is. One has class, another works, the third lives six time zones away. PLOXX offers both: games to play together when you're all there, and challenges that live 24 hours for every other moment.
The real problem with long-distance games is scheduling
An online board game, a quiz over video, a round of drawing: all of it needs the group in the same place at the same moment. As soon as timetables stop lining up, the game stops, and the group chat turns into "so when are we doing this?" with no answer ever.
The fix isn't a better calendar. It's a game that tolerates absence: I make my move now, you make yours tonight, and nobody waits for anybody.
Four challenges that play out on a delay
That's what the PLOXX Arena does. Every challenge lives 24 hours and gets picked up whenever someone passes by:
- The duel. You post your fighter (level, weapon, armor), your friends challenge you when they pass, the duel plays itself and you watch the replay when you're back.
- Two truths, one lie. Your three-statement card waits for the others' guesses for a full day.
- The drawing. Thirty seconds to draw a word, ten to guess, at any hour.
- Would You Rather. Seven questions of the day, the same for everyone, and a match rate computed against those who answered before you.
Everything that happened without you arrives in a single message, never more than two notifications a day. And the weekly leaderboard shows who in the group actually kept up.
When you're all there
On the day you're all together, distance disappears:
- The HQ, your group chat room with friends, with games that start inside the conversation: Would You Rather (139 questions), the Impostor (28 word pairs), Most Likely To (65 questions), drawing (58 words) and two truths one lie (42 statements). Three players minimum for group games.
- Watching a video together: a YouTube video launched in the HQ, synced for everyone. See watch YouTube together.
- 2v2: you and a friend against another duo, when you want to meet people without being alone. That's 2v2 video chat.
- The squad: up to ten of you, with weekly quests to complete together and clashes against other squads. See build a team online.
If what you want is a list of games for a call that's already running, here are the games to play on a video call.
And for the evenings when nobody is free, there is still the random chat app, free and with nothing to sign up for.
Far apart, same time zone or not
Meeting strangers opens every evening from 9 pm to midnight, Paris time. Among friends nothing is time-boxed: messages, the HQ, private video calls between friends and the Arena stay open all day. If one of you lives in Montreal, they make their Arena move at their own hour, and you all meet at the HQ on the weekend. And if one of you doesn't write in your language, the chat is translated automatically.
And because half of the "when are we doing this?" end up forgotten, you can set a meetup right inside the conversation, with a reminder.
Nothing to install, nothing to create
PLOXX runs in your phone's or computer's browser. No app to download, no account to create: a nickname, an avatar, and an invite link to send to your friends. Everything is free, chests can't be bought, and only avatar cosmetics are optional.
Two rules never change: ages 15 and up, and a minor never meets an adult outside their circle of friends. The camera is never required.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work if we're never online at the same time?
Yes, that's what the Arena is for: a challenge lives 24 hours, everyone makes their move when they pass by, and the result arrives in a single message.
How many people can play?
HQ group games need at least three players. A squad holds up to ten people. 2v2 is two against two, and the Arena is played on your own time.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Everything runs in the browser, on phone and computer alike. You can add an icon to your home screen, but that isn't an install.
Is it free?
Yes. The HQ, the Arena, the games, calls between friends, watching videos together and the levels are free. No chest is for sale.
What if my friends live in another country?
The Arena doesn't care what time it is: everyone plays their move at their own hour. Among friends, messages, the HQ and private calls are open all day. Only meeting strangers opens in the evening, from 9 pm to midnight Paris time.
