It is past 9pm. You are home, you have finished what you had to do, and the evening is here with no plan. The classic trap: open an app, scroll, and find yourself at 11pm wondering where the time went. Here are 8 ideas for the next two hours.
Why 9pm is the worst slot
At 9pm you are rested enough to want to do something, but not enough to start a project. Too late to go out, too early to sleep. It is the slot where boredom hits hardest - and luckily, also the one where the most people are online.
The 8 ideas
- Talk to someone new. An unplanned conversation is the most effective thing against evening boredom. One click, one random person, and you move on if it does not click.
- Join the busy hours. On PLOXX, traffic peaks in the evening: you find someone in seconds instead of waiting.
- Watch a video with a friend, at the same time. Synced, with live reactions. Nothing like watching alone.
- Play two or three rounds of "Would you rather?". Five minutes, and the conversation runs itself.
- Build your avatar. Hair, eyes, outfit, neon frame. Surprisingly absorbing, and you can then chat behind it without showing your face.
- Build a team. Add the people you clicked with and form a squad to take on other teams.
- Tidy one single drawer, 10-minute timer. The effort-to-satisfaction ratio is unbeatable on a lazy evening.
- Listen to a full album doing nothing else. If you genuinely want off screens, this is the best option on the list.
What I'd avoid
- Starting an 8-episode series at 9:30pm. You already know.
- Opening a game that needs an hour of installing. The evening will be over before the download.
- Scrolling "just five minutes". It has never been five minutes.
