Video chat, no download: open the page and you are on

There is nothing to download: no software, no APK, no extension, no plugin. Video chat runs straight in your browser, on phone, tablet or computer. And if you still want it as an icon, you can add it to your home screen without going near an app store.

Why this no longer needs installing

Browsers have been able to do live video for years, through a built-in technology called WebRTC. It is the same one the big video conferencing services use. It needs no extra software, no Flash, no Java, none of the plugins the installed clients of that era relied on.

What your browser does ask for is permission to use your camera and microphone. It is asked once, and you can say no: without a camera you can chat in text, or show up as an avatar instead.

"No download" is a safety question too

This search is usually made out of caution, and the caution is well placed. In this particular category, downloading is the actual danger:

A web page, by contrast, cannot install anything. That is a browser limitation rather than a promise from us: close the tab and nothing is left running.

The same goes for the account: there is nothing to create either, as free video chat with no signup covers.

You can still have it like an app

Installing nothing does not mean settling for a tab lost among thirty others. From your browser menu, "Add to Home Screen" (or "Install") puts a PLOXX icon next to your other apps. It opens full screen, with no address bar.

The difference from a real install matters:

What you actually need, and what can block it

The only real requirements are an up-to-date browser and a decent connection. When it does not work, the common causes have nothing to do with a missing download:

The help page works through these case by case.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install an app?

No. Video chat runs in the browser. You can add an icon to your home screen to open it full screen if you like, but that is not an installation and it goes through no app store.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on phone and tablet as well as desktop, with an up-to-date browser. Avatar mode is especially handy on a phone, since it saves you framing your face.

Why do some video chat sites want software?

Almost always because they predate browsers being able to do it alone, or because the software is the real product. In 2026 no video chat needs installing to work.

Do I need to download something for my camera?

No, and be wary of any site claiming otherwise. A camera that does not work is almost always a denied permission or another app holding it. There is no driver and no player to install.

Do I need to sign up?

No email, no password. You pick an age and an avatar and you are in.
