Is PLOXX safe?
A fair question, especially for a recent platform. Here is what is in place, how to check it yourself, and what we will not claim. A platform that promises you zero risk should raise your suspicion rather than your trust.
Ages are separated, not just written in the terms
This is the most useful difference in the category, and the rarest. Almost every random chat platform has a minimum age buried in its terms and never acts on it: a 15-year-old and a 40-year-old land in the same pool.
On PLOXX, the date of birth is asked on arrival and determines an age band used as a matching rule: under-15s cannot be matched at all, and 15-17 year-olds are matched with each other, never with adults. That holds in Duo mode and in group rooms too.
The limit, plainly: that age is declared. Nobody in this sector can verify age reliably without demanding ID, which would create a different privacy problem. A determined user can lie. Separation is still far better than no separation, but it is not a guarantee and we will not present it as one.
Your face is never required
Most video chat incidents start with a captured image. The simplest way to remove that risk is not to transmit your face at all:
- Avatar - a character you build replaces the camera entirely. Your real face is never transmitted, so there is nothing to capture.
- Text only - no camera, no mic.
- Webcam - only if you decide to, when you decide to.
This is different from the "masks" offered elsewhere, which remain a layer sitting on top of your real camera feed. See the avatar chat page.
Video moderation runs on your device
The most counter-intuitive technical point, and one we would rather explain than reduce to a slogan. Video is end-to-end encrypted: our servers cannot look at it. Server-side video moderation would mean breaking exactly that.
So the analysis happens in your browser. The other person's stream is scanned locally during the match; no image is sent to us, only signals. If the model fails to load, the site still works: it is a protection layer, not a dependency.
Reporting stays human: one tap sends a snapshot to the team, with structured reasons and automatic priority on serious cases. Repeat offenders are IP-banned.
What we know about you (almost nothing)
- No signup: no email, no phone number, no name. An anonymous ID is generated in your browser.
- Your IP is not visible to the person you are talking to: video is relayed, which prevents the classic IP leak of a direct peer-to-peer connection.
- Videos are never recorded. The only exception is a snapshot at the moment of a report, sent to moderation.
- Your IP is only logged on a report, and deleted after 12 months.
- Inactive accounts are deleted automatically after 24 months.
- No third-party ad trackers without your explicit consent.
The full detail is in our privacy policy, not in a marketing sentence.
No, it is not a scam - and here is how to check
Matching, text and video chat, filters, friends, mini-games, progression and moderation are free, with no time limit and no card. There is nothing to pay to use PLOXX.
What can be bought is optional and cosmetic: appearance and a comfort subscription. Nothing purchasable gives an advantage - combat gear is earned with in-game currency. You will never lose a fight because someone paid.
And you can check without taking our word for it: open the site, play for ten minutes without giving anything, and see what you are asked for. The answer is: nothing.
What we will not claim
No platform where strangers talk to each other can honestly say no risk remains. Here are our limits, stated clearly:
- Age is declared. Someone can lie about their date of birth.
- Moderation is not omniscient. It reacts fast on reports and automatically filters part of the streams, but it does not see everything - and nobody does.
- Screenshots exist. No technology prevents them, which is precisely why the avatar is the better answer.
- The platform is young. Its community is still mostly French-speaking and being built.
The usual habits apply on PLOXX as anywhere: no full name, no address, no school, never move to another private app, and leave without justifying yourself the moment a conversation feels wrong. Our safety guide covers all of it, and parents have their own page.
Frequently asked questions
Is PLOXX safe for a 15-year-old?
That is the audience the platform is built for: open from 15, with 15-17 year-olds matched only with each other, never with adults. Add the avatar so you never show your face, and video moderation that runs on the device. The honest caveat: age is declared, so separation greatly reduces the risk without eliminating it.
Does PLOXX record videos?
No. Video is end-to-end encrypted and cannot be watched by our servers. The only exception is a snapshot sent to moderation at the exact moment someone reports you.
Can the other person see my IP address?
No. Video is relayed, which prevents the IP leak typical of a direct peer-to-peer connection - a real problem on many competing platforms.
Is PLOXX free, or is it a scam?
Matching, chat, filters, friends, mini-games and moderation are free with no time limit and no card. Only cosmetics and a comfort subscription cost money, and nothing purchasable gives an in-game advantage.
Do I have to give an email or a phone number?
Neither. An anonymous ID is created in your browser. Linking an email is possible but optional, and only serves to recover your progress if you change device.
What happens if someone behaves badly?
You leave the conversation - you owe no explanation - and hit the report button, which sends a snapshot to the team with a structured reason. Serious cases are prioritised and can be escalated to the authorities. Repeat offenders are IP-banned.
